I hope someone here can answer this, its driving me up the wall.
I started installing clear corner lens on a 02 Dodge Dakota and the front side marker bulb is a # 168 which I could not find in amber and since previos year models used a # 194 bulb so I thought they would work, well they won't. After a few moments the 194 start to smoke, and explode. I have done a comparison of the 2 bulbs on various bulb mfg's website and the only difference in the buls is that the 168 has a 1500 hour life and draws 0.35 amps and the 194 has a 2500 hour life and draws 0.27 amps, everything else about the bulbs are identical, lenght, width, socket type, filament, etc., both are rated @ 14 volts
I went to a NAPA store looking for amber 168 and they did not have any, when I asked for 194 to use in place I was told they would not work, they will smoke and burn out, which is just what I experienced.
Can anyone explain why this happening

The 194 is 3.8 watts, and the 168 is 5 watts.
