Hey. My car was broken into twice last week. The first time they broke the little wing window in the back, smashed my passenger side mirror, stole my revos, popped the trunk swiped my subwoofer, and roadside repair kit. I had the mirror and wing window repaired. I took out my sub amp, as I don't have the money to replace it, and I don't expect that I will for at least a year. A few days later, they broke the same damn wing window and tried to get into my trunk (the release lever was completely destroyed), I'm guessing to go for the amps this time. This time, however, I had my trunk release locked (which I should've done the first time). Right now I'm parking very far away from where I live to avoid this bullsh*t again. I'm also planning on moving in a month's time. Oh yeah, my deductible was a thousand dollars. All stolen goods and repairs equaled a thousand dollars.
Unfortunately I don't have a damn alarm system. I lived in Missouri for 13 years and had no need for one. Now I live in the Bay Area and I've learned that not having one can cost me. I have a '98 honda civic with factory keyless remote. What in the world should I do? What options do I have? How nice of an alarm should I get? What brands should I look at? Do I really need glass detectors?

hey ryan, welcome to the bay area!!

unfortunately, it's always the same senario.......  we always think that it's not neccessary to get an alarm until it's too late. But anyhow, I reccommend you invest in a decent alarm system if you plan to keep your car.  DEI is a good company, all kinds of gadgets add-ons you can think of for car security.  they offer anything from glass break sensors to talking modules...etc.... also they recently bought out Clifford, so now they're like the biggest alarm company out there..

good luck!!!

Yea, I recommend a basic alarm, and then customize it. For example, get a DEI Viper 550, and you'll have all of the basics....door protection, hood and trunk protection, shock protection, things like that. Then I would invest some time and install a fuel cutoff switch of some type. Put it in a location that only you know. It only costs a few bucks, but it will make it a lot harder for someone to take your car. Although these punks sound like they're just going for your stuff rather than the car.
If you really want to get into, there's tons of other accessories, too...like a backup-battery, motion sensors, things like that.
