I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima and the factory bose amplifier doesn't work any more. This really isn't the problem though, it also has a factory powered sub woofer. My problem is I am going to sell it any was wondering if there would be anyway around buying the factory bose amplifier and say use a powered head unit to power the speakers but how would I still power the sub

To power that powered sub without the factory bose amplifier is very difficult and doesn't sound good when you hook up another type of amp to it. Plus you will easily blow the sub because it is factory and pretty much not capable of handling more than 50 watts RMS. You pretty much will not be able to use that sub without the bose amp. That's what I've come accrossed when it comes to powered factory subs.

yea the bose speakers are 1 ohm which means if you hook up an aftermarket head unit or amplifier to the speakers it will overheat and possibly get damaged. I imagine the sub is the same way and thus you'd need a 1-ohm stable aftermarket amp. But an aftermarket amp that is 1-ohm stable (there are only a few of them) is going to put out about 10 times more power than the bose sub can handle.

You should try emailing the folks at Factory Car Stereo Repair, Inc. They have a lot of experience with bose systems and bose repairs and I bet they could fix up your system for you for a lot less than what it'd cost you to add aftermarket components to the vehicle.
