I Installed an Autopage rf-310 in a 98 cavalier ( no power doors or windows).  I got everything all wired up and started to program the alarm.  To do the transmitter(remote) programming I had to turn the ignition switch off/on 3 times and stay in the on position, then hit the valet switch 3 times and hold on the third.  Everything for that worked fine and it recognized the remote.  The next step was to pick what features I wanted I II or III, for this I was supposed to  turn the ignition switch on/off (reverse of last time) 3 times and stay in the off position, then hit the valet switch 4 times and hold on the 4th.  NOTHING HAPPENS, I can't figure why the transmitter programming worked and the alarm feature wont.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Also does this vehicle have Passlock (it is the barebones model). THANKS

If you have the Passlock I, you should have a security light on your dash board that turns on when you turn the key to on, and then should turn off shortly after you have started the car. I have never seen a Cavalier that didnt have the passlock, so I am pretty sure you have it.
I have had a lot of trouble with bypassing Cavalier Passlock I systems when using universal bypass modules, so I have drawn up a few diagrams that use relays and a resistor (or trimpot).
Take a look at Diagram #8 on this page if you are interested in a bypass diagram.
Passlock I Temporary Bypass Diagram #8
To get the resistence value: Strip back the Black wire (ORANGE / Black on Trucks). Start the car with the key, then cut the yellow passlock wire. strip back the key side of the yellow wire and take a DMM and put one lead on the key side of the yellow wire and the other on the ORANGE / Black wire. Record the resistence, then reverse the two leads and record the resistence. Dial in the higher of the two resistences recorded into a trimpot (or buy a resistor within 5% of the measured value) and set it up using two standard 30 amp automotive relays according to the diagram.
The passlock wires are thin wires that can be found in the main ignition harness. If you cannot identify them, you can remove the shroud and grab them coming from the key cylinder.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Oh yeah, and as far as entering programming mode, keep trying, sometimes it is easy to make mistkaes when pressing the programming switch on those autopage units.

i've had this problem with autopae alarms as well, i've found that you have to do the 4 button pushes as fast as possible for best results, other than that keep on trying, your on the right track
