95 Plymouth Neon Factory Alarm Replacement

Hello,

My 95 Neon Factory Alarm ceased working a few weeks ago, and I took the chance and bought another one, since mine had remote control but no keyless entry. There are a couple of questions I have regarding both the old and new alarms.

I don't know where the old alarm module is located in the car, and how to remove it.

I also don't know at all how to install alarms, this is my first, and since I'm very stubborn in installing things on my own in my car I've had real trouble finding out what to do (I haven't done anything yet). Luckily I found this site and this forum but I don't understand much of the things explained here. I can figure out how to do it, but not WHERE to connect the cables and stuff, and where to mount the module and the siren, etc.

My new alarm comes with a diagram of installation (in spanish, since I live in Mexico) but if anyone wants to help I can digitalize it and translate it in no time.

I really need help, and have been at this for a while now, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you... Any special tips on things I should do? or just connect to these cables?

SRS airbag wires are not enclosed in sheath at the steering column. They are a twisted pair run with rest of ignition harness. Be careful not to cut or probe these wires.

Ok thanks very much... should I take off the oem alarm module before installing the new one? or should I leave it there? if so, where do I locate this module and how do I take it off?

Usted puede salir el alarma del fabricante de origen en la ubicación actual. Usted necesitará desarmar el fabricante de origen alarma el color de alambre es ROSA/NEGRO en el entrepaño de la patada de pasajero. Requerirá un (-) pulso del principio remoto pero de usted no se debe hacer nada si usted es sólo instalar un sistema del alarma.

I've never heard of a '95 Neon having a factory alarm, but maybe it's just something I've never seen before.

Does your car have a blinking LED drilled into the dash, and/or a pushbutton or toggle switch mounted to the driver's underdash or kick panel?  If so, try to follow that wiring to its source.  Or find the siren underhood and trace that wiring.

There's a chance that it's an ordinary aftermarket alarm, but sold/installed by the new car dealer.  When you find it, try to determine if it's a factory-installed piece or not.

I didn't understand you explanation because the program or website you used to translate did something like "You can exit the alarm of the maker... you will need cut the maker of the origin alarm the color..." ??? so the translation method just doesn't work, sorry . I understood that I don't need to do anything in order to install the new alarm? Because something happened last night, I disconnected the battery and when I reconnected it again the factory alarm WORKED!!! It works fine now, but as it doesn´t have keyless entry and the one I bought has, I am still considering installing the new one. Will both work? will I have to take off the old one? Can I take advantage of the old siren? Too many question, arent they hehehe I hope you will help me with this.

Mine is a mexican 95 chrysler neon, equivalent (sort of) to the 94 plymouth neon in the states. It came equipped (originaly from the dealer) with power locks, remote controlled alarm (no keyless entry) SRS Airbag and passenger-side airbag as well, power steering, A/C, alluminum rims and 14" tires 185-60R14, well equipped save for the power windows that I miss terribly and a better stereo that I had to install (the original one had trouble with the FM sintonizer so I couldn't hear properly my Sony 10 CD changer)

I imagine that plymouth didn't make such a model in the states, but you have to consider that the market needs in mexico are very different. While the Neon in the states is mostly (from what I hear) a car for young people (because it's cheap), in mexico it is oriented to the housewife / bussinessman sort of market, because it is much more expensive. a 2002 neon costs in the us about 9,000 right? in mexico, the same car costs about 14,000 to 21,000 that's MUCH more expensive!!! so young people don't buy such cars in mexico, they borrow them from their folks hehehehehehe

That's some interesting info on the Mexican Neon, especially that they'd put the fancy Chrysler name on it.

In the U.S., $9000 will buy you a Hyundai Accent with no options, not even an air conditioner.  I think it might be the cheapest new car here.  Most compact sedans like the Chevy Cavalier, Dodge Neon, Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla, seem to be in the range of $15,000 with decent equipment.

I still believe that the alarm was dealer installed, or the dealer made a contract for a local shop to come to the dealer and perform the installation (which is what I do for a living).  It wouldn't make any sense for the factory people to give you a remote that controls the alarm, but not the door locks.

If you're able, follow the LED, valet switch, or siren wiring back to its original location, and tell us if you see signs of aftermarket wiring.

If the Neon has a siren in the engine bay, then it's an aftermarket alarm system. There is no OEM alarm system out on the market that I know of that has a factory siren. Find the alarm brain by following Chris's instructions and tell us what the brain says on the casing.... model number, FCC number or name of manufacturer.
