I have a friend that's having radio reception problems......he can't seem to get a lot of the AM channels he used to get in his older vehicle (90 mitsubishi eclipse) He has a 95 ford taurus now....he's wondering if he should change the antenna? Or the radio has something to do with it? Why did his Mitsubishi radio pick up these am signals with no problems where as his taurus can't?

Does the taurus have a power antenna? If so, is it working properly? Also, how is his FM reception?

Of course the easy answer might be that the Mitsu simply has a better radio/antenna that does the Ford. There is probably nothing wrong. If he does not like the reception of the Ford, he may have no choice but to replace the head unit...

yea the reception and stations are coo on the mitsubishi and the ford.....it's just the ford does pick up the certain couple of stations that mitsubishi can......would i have to replace the head unit? or the antenna? I'm not sure if it has a power antenna either?...

if the fm is good then the promblem is going to be not in the antenna or the radio but simply in the vechile. am reception is dependent on the antenna in a way but am isnt a powered signal like fm is. am works much like line of site kind of like a cb radio. you see these trucks with big whip antennas and laugh but there is a good reason for it. the higher the antenna the farther it reaches and also can recieve. same thing with am radio.

bbmecp hit it on the head, if fm is there and am is bad, test the antenna.
