I had my alarm installed at a local shop and it worked fine for the most part. Sometimes in the morning though, the remote start feature would not work. It would start my 97 4Runner, but after about 5 seconds, it shuts off. Might this be caused by my RPM being too high? I think it gets to about 1500 in the morning. If this is the case, would the installer be able to raise that limit?

The bigger problem that I have now is that my remote start stopped working altogether. Recently, I switched my hood with someone elses. Is there something that I forgot to switch out as well and am missing now by switching hoods? Thanks in advance.

Make sure that the hood pin switch is not grounded. If the system registers a ground on this wire, then it will think that the hood is opened and will not operate the RS.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what might be causing the remote start to turn off after about 5 seconds?

The over rev protection kicks in at about 4000rpm in the 554t .It definitly can't be the over rev protection. the alarm states that it has under rev protection but doesn't give any other detail about it.
you can check the switch in the hood - it must be grounded to start.
Bye the way what range do you get with this alarm ?

A mistake in my last post --the hood wire should NOT be grounded to start ....sorry about that ....
it should be open.

Thanks for your help. I will have the installer into it this weekend. The range I am getting is really crappy. I would say about 100 ft max. =(
