Hey Guys,

I have a 1995 FTO, and am experiencing some problems with power drain.

I'm running an Alpine IVX-C806 head unit, with a set of Alpine component's in the doors. Kenwood 7x10's in the rear shelf, a 600w Pioneer Sub in the boot with 3 x SONY Explode amps. Boot is NEON lite, set to only come on when the boot is open.

Periodically when I try to start the car in the morning the battery is dead. No problems all week, then this morning - nothing.

If it was the alternator, would I get the usual red low power light? - Have not noticed any dimming on the lights or anything. Meter was reading 13v yesterday, did not notice the battery level dropping or anything. I have noticed that the head unit was wired directly to the battery, rather than to the ignition live. Would this contiunous power be responsible (maybe the amps are drawing power) for the drain?

Any help is much appreciated.

The head unit needs both a constant and a switched power. If both are connected to the battery then that may cause the battery to go dead. How long has it been since the battery was replaced?

Normal battery voltage and current draw

• A healthy battery is about 12.2 - 12.8 volts

• A not so good battery ( but still operational ) is about 11.4 - 12 volts

• A battery needing replacement will read under 11 volts ( about 10.5 - 10.8 )

Anything over a 25ma draw is considered parasitic. Use your DC ma current setting on your dmm. Put it in line with your battery to check to see if the battery has a parasitic draw.
