Audiovox Remote starter gone haywire

Helo all I'm a newbie to this forum, and hope I can get some advice on my remote starter issue.

I've got a 2002 Mazda Protege5, automatic transmission.

I bought the car about 13 months ago, and the dealer installed an Audiovox alarm/remote starter, model PRO-9675FT4.
The thing has worked flawlessly for over a year, but now the starter is giving me some serious problems:
The car will start, shut down within a minute or two, then re-start. I know the unit will try to re-start the car if the first attempt fails, but that's not my issue here - this is when the car is already running fine - it shuts down and re-starts.
Also (and this is what REALLY bothers me) - the other day I remote-started the car - seemed to be working fine this time - when the starter engaged WITHOUT shutting the car down first - resulting in that familiar grinding sound - this one really ticked me off, because now the unit is causing possible damage to my car.
WTF is going on here? The car runs perfectly itself (as it should being just over a year old Audiovox Remote starter gone haywire - Last Post -- posted image. ), and so does the alarm/remote entry, etc. It's only the starter that is giving me headaches.
A few things I should mention: The temperature lately has been near 100 degrees - no idea if this could somehow foul up the starter module. Second, I recently re-wired a set of stock running lights on my car; the bumper side lamps used to work as extra "parking lights", but I re-wired them to work as flashers only, simply by cutting the existing power wire, and tapping into the flasher power wire from the front turn signals. The front bulbs are dual filament, and therefore have three wires - ground, flasher power, and parking light power wires. The side lamps are single filament, with only two wires - parking lamp power and ground - I just changed the power source for the sidelights, and can't see how this would affect anything, unless the starter somehow senses the voltage in the parking lamp circuit upon start-up - the voltage would now be different, because there is one less bulb illuminated per side.
I just figured I'd list all possible variables, and things I have changed, in case I somehow caused the problem I'm having.
I'm getting ideas before calling the warranty department for this - if it's due to my "mods", then it won't be covered, but at least I can fix it myself. If it is just a faulty unit, then I'll be covered for parts (labor is only one year - I'm a month past the year point - bastards Audiovox Remote starter gone haywire - Last Post -- posted image. ).
Thanks for any insights.

Bring it back to the dealer that installed the alarm/remote starter and get them to look at the tach signal wire. It seems that the unit can not tell if the car has started and also  is shutting down because of a lack of a tach signal. Another possibility is that the  immobilizer bypass is not functioning properly and that's why it's shutting off on you. Get them to check this as well.

Well, I think I checked the tach sensing wire myself, as this has been suggested to me on several forums.

I found one wire connected to a coil pack on op of the motor - this wire seems to have been extended, as the original wire is GREEN/ orange - it seems to "change" to a BLACK/ white wire, but is the only wire present on the coil from the alarm/starter.

I remote started the car (which, BTW, is no longer giving me trouble - it ran just fine - go figure) with the hood up and the pinswitch taped down, and pulled the wire off of the coil, and the engine kept running?!?!  Shouldn't it shut down?  Is it possible that the wire I pulled (which runs straight from the coil to the alarm wiring under the dash) is not the tach input?

Now my real problem is that he starter is not acting up anymore, so I don't know how it could be tested, diagnosed and fixed - the problem won't appear if I bring it in for service.

I'm a little unsure of what to do next....bu thanks for any replies - they do help.

Regardless of wether or not it happens again when you bring it to the garage is not the issue. It's best to be able to bring this up to the dealer when things like this happen, especially when your car is still on warranty. If the problem was evident before and you know it happened, you can bring it down to the dealer and most computer systems on cars these days hold errors when they occur for technicians to diagnose at a later date. Seeing that the dealer installed the starter..... they are ultimately responsible for the installation and also the warranty if the alarm/remote starter is the cause of the troubles. Better safe than sorry and bring it up to them now..... they might be able to fix something with it.

If the tach wire was taken off the car before you remote started the car, the car should not have started., but because you removed the tach wire after the car started, it should still run, but some RS units only require it for startup and after that it only needs it for monitoring if the revs get up too high. So if it's not there while it's already started, then it's not too high rather too low or 0 so it will not register on the CPU of the module.
