I've heard it's hard to hear difference in sound quality out of subwoofer amps since it's all low frequinces.  Is this true?

If so, would I be better off just buying a really cheap amp that puts out the power, or spending more and getting a class d amp with a good rep.?

When it comes to Class D amps you should look at the THD ratings (distortion). A cheaper amp will have a high THD percentage, and you run a higher risk of having more distortion in your bass. Current draw, efficiency, RMS output, and minimum impodence (ohm) stability are also other factors to look at.
The cleaner the signal that is produced, the better the SQ. The JBL BP series (BP150.1, BP300.1, BP600.1, and BP1200.1) is an excellent series. Reliable, relativly inexpensive, clean signal, good efficiency, and they are 1ohm stable. There are better amps out there, but the BP series works great if you're on a budget but still want a good quality amp.

the JBLs are bullet proof amps for their price, Ive seen a 1200.1 run 4 12s and hit 148dB...and the subs did not get hurt either...They are clean amps
