toyota tundra speaker depth problem

I have a 2000 Tundra. I want to install new components in the front doors, but the depth is only 2 5/16". I took out the factory speaker and there is some sort of bracket running vertically down the inside of the door. What modifications should be performed to allow for aftermarket speakers that mount deeper than this? Thanks!DNelson

That bracket is probably your window guide. You need to find aftermarket speakers with a shallow mount depth. I had the same problem with my '97 Explorer. I went with Infinity Kappa 50.5cs. They are a 5.25" component speaker with external tweeter, and a mount depth of 2 1/16". Best bet is to use Crutchfield's Vehicle Fit Guide. That will give you a wide variety to choose from.Squirrel

I guess your right. I wanted some JL's, but you can't always get what you want. Thanks for the advice!

No prob. You could always find (or fabricate) some mounting rings that allow the speakers to sit out more as well. The only issue with these is that you will have to cut the factory grills out of the doors (gets tricky).Squirrel
