my friend has 2-12" team fosgates in an enclosed box. everytime he plays his stuff for a little bt the fuse melts. he has a fuse like a foot away from his amp. i dont know the power or size of the amp. he buys those little heavy duty fuse box things from autozone all the time but they burn up too.

What kind of amp dose he have, and what is the fuse rating on his power cable? Also try and find out the size of the cable? And dose he have a fuse on the main power cable at the battery?

Yes you should have the fuse as close to the battery as possible, usually with 10" so that way you protect the wire, if it is closer to the amp and you get a short in the wire anywhere along the wire before the fuse, the wire will complete the circuit without any protection.
