I finally got my RS-800III installed and working. At first I had the antenna mounted in the lower left hand corner of the windshield and the range was crappy (50ft max).

I moved it up by the rear view mirror and it seems better (tested about 250ft). My question is does the solar tint affect the range at all? The base of the antenna is mounted in the solar tint, as is about 1/3 of the antenna. The remaining 2/3 of the antenna and the tip is down below the solar tint. Will having the base of the antenna and a small portion of it in the solar tint affect the range? I don't know exactly how it works.... does the whole antenna or just the tip pick up the signal? It's about as far down as I can get it without being too annoying.

Yes , the tint at the top of your window will sometimes affect the range of your system. The best advice is to read your owners manual and see what they suggest. It is usually best to have the antenna up high. Good luck with it.

Metallic tint will affect the reception on your antenna, this is a fact. But most other tint films will have no effect, or very little effect on the reception.

How do you know if your tint is metallic? I have my antenna (viper 790) mounted on top of my windshield under the factory tint. The range is not very impressive and sometimes I have to be within 100ft of the car to get it to work. Could that factory tint strip be metallic?

I too would like to know if it's metallic. That is interesting...
