 I am installing a KL-455 Commando Keyless entry, but have two different wire charts on the same truck. Color codes are all the same but the resistor values are different.

One says: POWER LOCK : WHITE/ DARK GREEN SINGLE WIRE DOOR LOCKS POWER UNLOCK WHITE/ DARK GREEN SINGLE WIRE DOOR LOCKS --LOCK REQUIRES A NEGATIVE TRIGGER THROUGH A 867 OHM RESISTOR UNLOCK REQUIRES NEGATIVE TRIGGER THROUGH A 364 OHM RESISTOR. YOU MUST USE RELAYS!

Two Says: You need 2 relays for a full 30 amp ground output.

lock will get a TRIGGER THROUGH A 1.4K OHM resistor,
then attach to the single wire
(WHITE/ dark green, then the same with the unlock,
THROUGH A 1.8K OHM resistor to the same
single white dark green wire
approx 1/4 in. from the first.

OK, In either scenario, I'm no resistor genius. How do I get to these Ohm's? Do I add up the resistor ohms and wire them end to end? Help?

Also, anyone know which one is correct in the above two scenarios? I have everything wired and ready to go. I'm going to forego hooking up the parking and dome. I'm more concerned with the keyless entry.

For the 2002 Dodge ram PU has a few different options available. Here is what I have from one program:

  • Lock requires a negative trigger thru a 820 ohm resistor.
  • Unlock requires a negative trigger thru a 330 ohm resistor.
  • Use the WHITE/ GREEN wire for both connections on the relay.

Here is what I have from another program:

  • Lock Requires A Ground (-) Pulse Through A 867 Ohm Resistor.
  • Unlock Requires A Ground (-) Pulse Through A 364 Ohm Resistor.
  • Diode Isolate One Of The Wires.

You have a 5 % range of error with the resistors so if you use the second of the two listed above, it should still work if the sytem requires a 820 ohm resistor, You are correct in wiring the resistors up end to end.

Hmm, I got the resistors dead on, found all the wires from my WIREWERX LIST exacly where they should be, but the relay wiring is still causing me a problem. All other features work, I spent a lot of time hooking all the possibilities up. The dome light kicks on in unlock, the horn honks when locked. LED works, Bypass works, but the dang doors wont lock or unlock. I have two B&N relays, but the wiring diagram in the manual just doesn't seem to do the trick.  The manaul is FUBAR.  Can anyone speak from experience? Any diagrams out there that work?

Hey Lockbox, can you post the wires that you connected to each of the pins on the relsya that you used ? Also, the B&N relay was a 5 pin relay, right ?

Found the "magic combination". Forget the manual diagrams, it just didn't work with the RAM.

This worked!!

============================================================

Lock Relay :  (87) 12v +Batt, (85) 12v +Batt, (30) to resistors then white w/green stripe, (86) from module lock output, (87a) chassis ground.

resistor config: 330 Ohm x2 and 100 Ohm x 2 = 860 Ohm

============================================================

Unlock Relay : (87) 12v+Batt, (85) from module unlock output, (30) to resistors then white w green stripe, (86) 12v+ Batt, (87a) Chassis ground.

resistor config: 330 Ohm x1 and 33 Ohm x1 =363 Ohm

============================================================

Hey Jeff, thanks for the previous help on the resistors. You were right, I just had to get close. Horesshoes, hand grnades and now resistors.

 Okay I use 2, 249 ohm resistors in parralel on unlock(-),and a 560 on the lock(-).Remember as with any single wire door lock sys.use diodes

will this method work for a 94 RAM?

I just did one of these.

I used the DEI 451m and a 876ohm and 2x 646ohm resistors connected to the outputs of the 451m. The values were measured with a MultiMeter and worked flawlessly. I know that you can use relays but the small package and relatively easy connections on the DEI unit worked great.

From installer to Manufacturers Tech to Insurance replacement installer....full circle!
