Ok, this type of question has been posted before, but those posts are over a year old and appear to be locked so...

Question 1: I'm going to install a remote start on a 2002 elantra with keyless and factory alarm.  If I unlock the doors with the remote start, will this also disable the factory alarm?  If not, is there another disarm wire I can tap into?  Can I even start the car if the factory alarm is set?  I read a reply on these boards that you can bypass the factory alarm, but I would prefer not to do that.

Question 2: the tech sheet mentions that some cars come with an immobilizer (chip in the key).  How can I tell if my car has a chip (I bought it used)?

Thanks

I have yet to see an Elantra with an immobilzer.
The factory alarm disables itself when you remote start the vehicle. You need to power the key sense wire as an ignition. They are usually positive.
The only way to arm and disarm the factory alarm is by the factory remote. There is no way for you to not have to carry the factory remote if you want to arm the alarm. What I usually have customers do is use the factory remote when the vehicle is off so they can arm and disarm the factory alarm; and use the aftermarket remote to lock and unlock when the vehicle is running since the factory remote doesn't work when the key is in the ignition (which the car will think is the case since the key sense wire will be powered). Hard to explain....I hope you followed.

Sorry, you can NOT post a reply.
