ok i recently took off my door panels to install new speakers in the front two doors of my 99 Jeep cherokee.  it has power locks, and also a keyless entry with my viper alarm system.  on the door itself, there are two bars controlling the lock mechanism.  well somehow i messed them up or they are positioned wrong or something b/c those two doors dont lock anymore.  its not the wiring....the locks move when the alarm is set, and i can feel the pulse going to the door.  the left door, i can lock if i do it with my key, but the right door wont even stay locked if i use the key!! weird huh?  so i know for a fact its not the wiring and its not the lock motors.  its something to do with those two bars on the door.   someone please help, maybe one of you has a jeep and has come across this problem before and can help me...or maybe someone can help me regardless of wether you have a jeep or not! lol  thanks in advance!

This may sound stupid, but you may have the bars connected at the wrong mechanism. One bar goes to the interior door handle and the other goes to the interior lock. Try reversing them. . .it's just an idea.

hey i tried that today, it didnt work!   the two bars actually wont fit back like they are supposed to if i reverse them, so i guess i had them put back together the right way.  so if you got any ideas please let me know....this makes me very nervous when im at a club or something when im away from my jeep for a few hours!

what you are going to have to do is remove the door panel, and unhook the bars one at a time and see each time if the locks work, you may be better starting at the latch to be sure it isn't a problem with the latch, it's got to be hanging up on something.
