Ok here is my question. I have a 225 amp alternator installed in my 2000 Chevy Suburban. I am also using a 200 amp isolator solenoid with 2 brand new yellow top Optimas. My problem is that my second battery will not keep a charge and acts like isn't getting charged by the alternator. I had to hook up my charger to only the second battery last nite and will have to do the same thing tomorrow. I want to make sure that I have everything wired properly. I have the positve lead coming off the alternator going to my front battery. From the front battery I have a cable running to the isolator solenoid and then on to my second battery. I am using all 1/0 cable for all my power cable. I have even a negative cable running from my front battery directly to my rear battery. I have the isolation solenoid wired to a +12 volt source that is only on when the switch is on. I hear it click, when I first start the truck and when I shut it off. I want to know what is wrong and why my rear battery will not keep it's charge. The batteries were bought and installed at the same time. Do I need to run a wire directly from the alternator to the back battery as well? Nothing that I can find online gives me any help so I am hoping you can.

1st off how often do you use your system with the car off? 2nd sounds to me like you have it wired correctly. Although you should just find a good location to ground it to in the trunk. Instead of running your cable all the way from the 1st battery. And as far as running a + form the alternator to the 2nd battery that would defeat the purpose of the battery isolator. I would get a voltage meter and hook it up to both batteries with the car on and accessories off. They should both be within range of one another. If your 2nd battery reads much lower then you could possibly have a bad isolator. If your battery is getting the same voltage as the front but loses its charge then you may have a bad 2nd battery.

I don't listen to it hardly ever without the car running because I have a lot pulling on the second battery. I tested it like you said and it wasn't getting the same at the rear battery so I changed out the isolator. That still didn't fix it so I checked all my connections and it ended up being a loose connection on my ANL fuse at the front. I am using all Scosche EFX wiring products and I have had the same problem with all their ANL fuse holders. I am using the ones that have the 1/0 in and out, believe it is the PWFH2I
Fuse Holder I tightened it down as hard as I could and it solved my problem. Thanks for the help though because without it would have never known.
