98 ford taurus

ok im doing a side job for my friends g/f she has a 98 taurus.  she wants a cd player put in, i know there is something tricky to do with the radio, but i can figure that out.   my question is this...she has a factory alarm on it but she doesnt like it, so she wants me to put a new one in it.   ive put several alarms in cars before, but i never put one in a vehicle that had a factory alarm.   anything special i gotta do to bypass the factory alarm or whatever i gotta do?   thanks in advance.   actually i probably should have put this in the car security forum but oh well!

Allow a good amount of time for your first Taurus radio. They're not too hard after you've done a few of them, but they are different. The dash kit/wire harness retails for around $70; wholesales around $45. You'll have to transfer the old climate controls to the new dash kit, and also run wires to the tuner pack/amp location in the left rear of the trunk. If the car happens to have the optional automatic climate control, with all pushbuttons, there is no kit avaialable---get a CD changer instead. As for the alarm, first make sure she doesn't just have plain factory keyless. Open a window, lock the car with the remote, and walk away for a couple minutes. Reach in the window and open the car to see if there really is an alarm.

no she does have an alarm, she doesnt like it because she says its real sensitive.   yeah we have a dash kit here with a long roll of speaker wires...i assumed they had to be run to an amp somewhere.  i guess i pull the harness out of the tuner box in the trunk and that clips into the harness that comes with the dash kit.   kinda like some cadillacs with that tuner box in the trunk also.   so what do i have to do about the factory alarm?

Yes, same deal as the Eldorado/Seville, wiring-wise. You'll be able to see the sqaure lump under the carpet, atop the left rear wheel. When you say sensitive...do you mean a shock sensor? I know of no factory alarm that has a shock sensor.......but they do make aftermarket alarms that work off the factory remotes, so maybe that's what she has. Maybe you can just turn down the shock sensor.

yeah she says is too sensitive and that it just goes off all the time.  mine viper used to be like that too till i turned the sensitivity way down...it gets really annoying when everytime a storm comes in, ur alarm wakes you up at 3am!   she says its a factory alarm, but im with you, i dont think it is factory either she just probably doesnt know that.   if it does have an aftermarket shock sensor...i just gotta search for it and turn it down.  well thanks for the help.
