Hi guys,

I just brought a tweeter rated at 40 WRMS, and my car jvc car cd player is around 10-15 WRMS. the thing i need to ask you guys is... do i need a cross-over, i was told by one of the saleperson that it's better to have it to prevent the tweeter blow. But my car stereo is 10-15 WRMS.....would that be nessary to buy the cross-over since the tweeter is rated at 40 WRMS.

Thank-you :)

Yes, you need a crossover for sure otherwise the speaker will be trying to place frequencies that it is not capable of playing. A tweeter does not have a rubber curround like a speaker does that allows it to play lower frequencies that is why a crossover is required so you can limit the frequencies going to it.

WRMS = average power rating.  Power has nothing to do with the frequency the speaker is designed to play, but only with how much electrical energy if "pushing" the sound.

A tweeter is designed to reproduce high frequency sound, generally 3000 Hz and above.  Playing low frequencies will burn out (blow) the tweeter.  You will need a crossover to keep the low frequencies out of the tweeter.
