Hi,
I want to build a box for a 12" JL w0!!! I know the box range can be 1.00 - 1.75 cu. feet.
Does anyone know if you can actually hear a difference with either a 1.00 cu. feet box or a 1.75 cu. feet box???
And, does the SHAPE of the box matter???
Thanks

It depends on what you're looking to achieve.
Sealed enclosures will give you better SQ, all around decient SPL, are smaller in size, and are easier to build. You can also throw more power to a sub in a sealed enclosure (run less of a risk of blowing it), but it requires more power to sound good.
Ported enclosures will give you better SPL at the tuned frequency but not as much as a sealed enclosure at the rest of the frequencies, you sacrifice some SQ (you run the possibility of port noise), are larger then sealed enclosures, and are more difficult to build because internal volume is more critical on a ported enclosure than on sealed enclosures. You can't throw as much power into a ported enclosure as you could a sealed, but it requires less power to sound good.
In short: Sealed=SQ, Ported=SPL

i can tell you a 2cf sealed box for a JLW0 is way too big!   it requires 1-1.75.   honestly, i would go with about 1cf maybe a little bigger.  and no, the shape doesnt matter as long is the airspace is right.  and you dont want the magnet touching the back of the box either.  but besides that, nah the shape doesnt matter.
