Ford and Other Key Cylinder Covers?

Turn the ignition to run and look under the column, you will see a hole that doesn't have a screw in it. Stick a pick into the hole and find a small ball bearing. Once you push it in the entire cylinder will come out on the fords.Certified Security Specialist

Yeah you can remove the cylinder from what auex posted that's where you should start. By the way if by chance it's a ford escape you need to turn the key just 1 click up to remove the cylinder it won't come out with the ignition on like 98% of all the other cars..Anyway pull the cylinder first and then take the shroud itself off. Then getting the actual shroud itself off is always fun. For the most part those shrouds clip in and really isn't too much you can do besides pull until the shroud comes loose or the clips break. Just kinda push in around the joint (where top and bottom of shroud comes together) and hope that they will seperate. Just make sure to look ALL around the shroud first for any tabs to push or screws to remove. (Focuses for example have tabs on each side to push in and some cadillacs have hidden screws that you have to turn the steering wheel to see) Fords are the easier ones since they usually have screws underneath that hold the shroud together so even if you break a clip or two it will still go back together tight when you put the screws back in. One thing I do since I'm working outside at dealerships a lot of times in the winter is to run the heater facing the shroud for 5 - 10 minutes before attempting to remove it. This will make the plastic less brittle and less chance of breaking anything. Good luck, Mike
