I have a pioneer 850mp hu and sometimes it will go to mute just out of the blue.  It is very off and on.  Does anyone know what is happening??

Thanks,

Does it happen with Radio and CD, or just CD? I had a similiar problem with an old Sony that would go mute because the bass would make the CD skip at certain frequencies.

Check all of your grounds. Make sure they are on bare metal on the chasis. Try running the ground from the headunit directly to the chasis instead of to the factory harness.

Check your speaker connections and your RCA outputs to make sure they aren't grounding or arcing.
