I recently got 2 Alpine SWR-1241D subs and I dont know much about car audio. Thet are dual voice coil and are rated at 300 watts RMS and 4 ohm + 4 ohm each. Right now I have a 2 channel Crunch amp rated at 500 watts RMS. In the description it says high power 2 x 250 watts @ 4 ohms, 2 x 500 watts @ 2 ohms. Can someone explain to me how much power (RMS) I can expect to get to each sub and how to wire them for the most power and best sound quality. I will soon be getting 2 seperate amps but this is what I have to work with right now. Thank for any help you all can give me.

Ok, what you have are (2) 4ohm DVC subs rated 300RMS 1000Peak. You can safely wire them to your current amp in 1 of 2 ways...

1) Wire each sub to it's own channel. Wire each sub in Parallel for a 2ohm total load per channel, and the 500 x 2 @ 2ohms rating

2) Wire the subs together in Series/Parallel and bridge the amp for a 4ohm total load. Since you didn't list the Mono/Bridged rating... most Class AB mono/bridged ratings are around double the 2ohm stereo rating. So we'll guesstimate around 1000 x 1 @ 4ohms Mono/Bridged. Each sub will still get around 500RMS per sub (apx. the same as the 500 x 2 @ 2ohms rating). The following diagrams are the both same Series/Parallel wiring configuration (just viewed a little differently)...

i dont but has something changed on the Type R alpines. the older ones i purchased where 500wrms and 1000w peak?

Based on the latest Specs from Alpine, they're 300RMS now.

But it wouldn't suprise me if they were listed somewhere else as being 300-500 RMS and 1000 Peak. I've seen that type of listing more and more frequently lately.

what is that crunch amp stable to?? if its 2 ohm then you can't use those subs properly. you can use 1 voice coil on each sub to, and you will get a 2 ohm load. your not pushing enough power to worry about over powering the voice coils.

Need more info on the amp, what are the sizes of the fuses in it and what's the model#.

If the amp is truely rated at 2 x 500 watts @ 2 ohms then it doesn't matter. He has (2) 4ohm DVC subs. Each sub can be wired indepandently into a 2ohm load and wired individually on each channel (example 1 above).

The amp is a Crunch P-2250. It has (2) 25 amp fuses. Here are the specs:

RMS power range: 500 watts
Number of channels: 2
High power 2 x 250 watts @ 4 ohms
2 x 500 watts @ 2 ohms
4 & 2 ohm stable

Thanks for everyone's input- I can build realy fast engines and trannies but when it comes to this stuff I'm suckin.

Most amplifiers with fuses that are dual 25amp are rated between 80 - 125 watts per channel rms @ 20-20000hz @ 12v. Some amplifiers may be slighly more efficient than others, some may be measured at 14.4v, but for this amplifier to produce the wattage that you are claiming (that you were probably informed that it claims), looks way, way, way too good to be true. Yuor best bet to gain maximum capabilities for output and stability of the amplifier is to run the amplifier @ 4ohm bridged mono, this is accomplished by the 3rd diagram posted by wvsquirrel. The second best option as was pointed out earlier is the 1st option supplied by wvsquirrel. Hope this helps you out. Good job with the info for him squirrel.
