I've in the process of installing a "Prostart" remote starter in my 02 Dakota, quad cab 4x4. I've just completed the connections and haven't had a chance to trouble shoot anything....but when I try to remote start... the engine starts but quits within a second or two after starting. I'm wondering about the tach connection as I have the 4.7 and therefore 8 coils not a central one. Will it work to tie into one? The other thought I had was with this immobilizer issue.... question is does this pertain to only vehicles with the OEM alarm system? ( because I do not have one) Any help would be most appreciated.

tj,

Yes, the ignition key is grey. Thank you for the reply. I'll assume the tach connection is not an issue then?

Nope, your car thinks its being stolen.  The above post is correct, you need a security bypass.  The PCM in your truck is shutting the engine down.

to confirm it a transponder, try and hot wire the vehicle.

jump Igniton to +12 volts , then connect the starter wire to 12+ volts until the truck starts. if it strts and stays running, there is no transponder.

.... if its a thick gray key , there is a transponder...
