I am trying to set my stereo up to continue playing until I open my door using the diagram shown on this website.  My problem is, what type of switch do I use to activate the system?  I figured I would use a momentary switch that is held closed when the door is closed.  Will this work if I attach one wire to the relay and the other to a chassis ground?

It works automatically, you don't need any type of switch. When you put the key in the relay turns on and that turns the radio on. The relay stays energized until you open the door. How well do you know relays? If you need I will describe this more in depth. Just in case here is the diagram.

If you use it with a remote starter, add another relay triggered by the remote starter's sensor bypass output to interrupt ground going to the right relay shown above. This will prevent the latch (left relay) from engaging while the vehicle is running by remote start.

Auex, thank you for the response. What is the door trigger lead in that diagram ? I thought there needed to be a switch there, I guess not though. Perhaps you could describe the system in a little more detail for me...? Thanks!!

The door trigger is the wire that tells the car that the door is open. What basically happens is once you put the key in the ignition, the relay's will energize sending power to the radio. This will stay energized until you take the key out and open the door. On the relay to the right, the power that is supplying the radio power is also supplying the trigger that keeps the radio on. the relay on the left will take away the ground to the trigger when the door is open, thus resetting the relays and turning off the radio.

That makes more sense to me now.  So can I use the wire that goes to the dome light?  That would effectively act as the trigger, correct?  If not, could you suggest one that would work?  I can't find any contact, button, or switch on my truck that I would be able to use.  (2002 Ford Ranger Edge, 4-door)  Thanks again!

I found a wire that is labeled as "Door Trigger".  Is this the wire i should tap into?  The polarity is negative if this matters...

Yeah, it needs to be (-) trigger to shut the relays off. What kind of car do you have, make, model, year?

The trigger wire is negative, right behind the stereo.  I have a 2002 Ford Ranger.  The wiring colors chart for my truck can be found here: http://www.generation-edge.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4431 via generation-edge.com.  It has a wire labeled Door Trigger, you can find it about half way down the list.  Thank you again for all the help!
