A trimpot is a variable resitor, which its value(s) can be changed at will.

Once the value is found to be correct, simply apply some silicone or adhesive to prevent it from being moved out of place.

I dislike the dipswitch type bypasses as well...they run "in series" with the system, and if it fails or otherwise misbehaves, you won't be able to start the car with the R/S or the key (which sucks big time). Did you grab the right bulb test wire? Being PLI, you need it....
