300ZX AM Radio

Have a customer having problems with the AM reception in his can.. installed new Antenna and a new radio, new speakers and bypassed the bose amps.. (other problems also existed in the factory besides the AM recpetion, but the new deck will not get AM either, FM is fine) If I hold a different ant. out the car, will pick up. when I put that ant. in the car around the computer, it will sound horrible. Lots of interference.. was done at our seigan store and came to me for help.. I can't see an install problem (It was doing the same with the factory radio too, fm worked fine, no am) thanks

In his can eh! does he drive a porta potty? hahahaha Ground that antenna that you are holding in your hand to the car, what happens to it's reception. Your computer in the car is broadcasting all sorts or RF interference that is being induced by the antenna line, you need to rewire that antenna line and get it as far from any computer electronics as possible. Are you testing the reception inside of a building or out in a parking lot? In a lot of cases FM reception will be good for most antennas, however AM will suffer drastically if there is a break in the center conductor of the antenna line, check for continuity on the center conductor. So what kind of porta potty is this installed in?Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

I might be wrong but that almost sounds like a bad ground from the radio. try grounding the wire from the radio in a completely new place aside from the factorys ground point. Also take a look at what wires are near the antenna. if there are any power wires besided it they can leak noise into it.

rfkicker1's definately right......a lot of factory grounds arent as good as your own (when done properly) remember.....if you ground then scratch the painted area and ground it to solid chassis.

if all else fails, trying running and a wire from the negative on the battery to the antenna. can't get more of a clean ground than that.Duane...
