Best way to make connections?

I was just wondering, what everyones opinions were on the best way to make connections when installing an alarm.

How do you make your connections to the larger guage wires for remote starts?

Solder, Twist and Electrical tape, some kind of wire taps?  If using these taps where do you get them from?

I use wire taps but the people who make the alarms tell you not to use them on the high current wires. When I have one let me down then I will listen to them. The best connection but not the easiest is to use a wire stripper that can pull apart the insulation without cutting the wire and the soldering your alarm wire to it and then taping it up good.

The fastest vand most reliable means is the twist and tape method, connectors are way too unpredictable.

For the extra 10 min that it takes I will pull back the shield and solder all of my connections.  Its not worth having part of the cars electrical system go bad due to a scotch lock connection!

I would definately not used scotchlocks on an ign harness,    if you have time solder, otherwise strip about 1 1/2 inches off the wire your tappin into and use something to push through the wire and open it, the run about two inches of stripped wire through it and wrap around then tape it tight. this method is very strong for not soldering

Hey blazer2, check out this past topic. I learned a ton about tapping into wires and what methods to try. Stripping a little bit of wire back and soldering is not so bad with a little practice. Just grab some spare wires outside the car of course, and by the third or fourth try, it will come to you. Here is the link:

Where did this 10 extra minutes come from to solder? It takes less then 10 seconds per wire to solder (depending on your iron). It should take no longer then it would to attach a wire tap to the wire, and only a few seconds longer then "twist and tape"/"military tap". Twist and tape ( did someone call this reliable?) is not the correct way to install, in my oppinion it is the "half assed" way to install.

And I was refering to an extra 10 minutes to the entire install !!

I just did the alarm install on my GF's Explorer.  I ended up cutting the wires, then using good quality spade connectors to put them back together.  Well not the high current ones, I stripped them twisted the RS wires in and soldered them.  I guess im going to do alot of soldering when it comes to putting the G5 in my Blazer.  Im pretty handy with a soldering iron so it wont bother me much.
