I have a '93 Volvo 940 wagon that has no AM reception since I've installed an aftermaket headunit. The facotry headunit's AM worked fine. Since then I've tried 2 different head units (a pioneer and a JVC) and it dosent work on either of them. It worked fine on my old car which was a '91 740 wagon, the only difference is that the 740 had a power mast antenna, whereas the 940 has a in-glass antenna in one of the rear side windows. Is there an antenna amplifier somewhere in the car that needs to be powered up with the remote turn-on that I dont know about? This is driving me nuts. Thanks.

It is normal. Most european vehicles will loose a majority of thier am reception when adding an aftermarket radio. Use search for other info.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure what to search for.

Try to hook up an antenna direct to the head unit .if that works then something is wrong with your car antenna (like you said amplifier or something )

It is partially the car and the aftermarket radio. Aftermarket radio's put more money into developing the amp and cd sections of the radio and less in the tuner section. The car may have an ant. amplifier, see if there are any wires coming from the ant. cable.
