Hey,

I bought a Sony Xplod CDX -4000x about a year ago and lately it has been acting funny, once in a while..the motion display will freeze up or display ODD characters and then usually to fix it, I have to turn off power to the radio, take off the faceplate and give her a-go again...  has anybody heard of this before with the Xplods? I am going to look at my reciept from bestbuy to see if it is still under warranty later tonight. (god i hope still is)  If I were to reset the unit (i think there is a little button to push with a toothpick) do you think it will fix this? Again, this happens maybe once every two days...

Also,

What do you all think of Pioneer Amp's?

What about Lightning Audio subs?

Thanks guys!

1: bad connection somewhere inside the head unit. had similar issues with a removable face CD player once.
2: pioneer amps = junk
3: lightning subs = junk
good amplifiers: jl audio, mtx, rockford fosgate, several others.
good subs: jl audio, MMATS, DD, eclipse, infinity kappa, cerwin-vega, a few others.

Do you think it is something I can fix or try to exchange it?

Also, thanks for the advice on amps and subs.....i already have a poineer amp and lightning sub that I've been using for about 8 months now...they were cheap parts but i wanted a cheap bass system so it fit my budget and it sounds ok in my little truck.  But down the road, i wanted to know if i want to look at these brands again or not...i guess i wont. thanx again.

Hey Eric; try cleaning the contact where the face plate connects to the player. Sometimes over time the gold contacts get dirty and this creates a film over the contact points of the face plate causing ODD characters to be displayed on the screen, Clean with the blue part of those " PINK/BLUE " erasers. A little bit abrasive yet will not damage anything.

great..thanks for the advice..ill go pick up an eraser like that and give her a whirl..more than likely thats what it is, only because it happens once in a while..and then once i take off the face and put it back on, it usually works like a charm.. thanks again!

Hey chuck here, just for saying it, thier is a product line called progold! i use it on my computers and my head units with detachable faces. this is a contact cleaner, rejuvnator, and sealer. it works great and it it is infact a contact problem this is what i would use for cleaning it and extending the life of the face. this is just a website i found and you can probly eisly find it cheaper somewhere else. http://www.soundart.com/caig.html CAIG is the company that makes the accual product, and i'm sure you wont be dissastified with the prducts!
