Viper 550HF

   I installed my first alarm about a month ago. I tested everything at the moment and things seem to be working find. The only thing I could not test is the power door locks as they were not functioning prior to the alarm install.  I finally bought some replacement actuators for the locks. I notice that I was measuring a - 12 volts on one of the motor wires. This - 12 votls did not go away when I pushed the door lock button. The alarm was working fine at that time. I was trying to figure out where this voltage was coming from. In an attempt to find this voltage, I unplugged the power lock output wire from the alarm, but no change. After a few minutes the alarm would not respond, even the led was not lite. I checked the fuses and they were all good. I was told this alarm would not respond on two previous occasions. I installed this alarm for a friend of mine. He has a 96 Chevy Astro van.  The funny thing is he told me when he shut the door the alarm activated but only on those two occasions. The alarm work like it should otherwise. Now, the alarm only activates when we are physically pushing the door switch. When I completely take the alarm out of the picture, the - 12 volts only appear at the actautor leads when the door lock switch is activated as it should. Did I connect the alarm up wrong or is the alarm malfunctioning?  I need some help as this one got me stump. Thanks. I will try to tackle this again tommorrow.

   This just an FYI. I found my above stated problem. The problem was two fold. One there was a loose constant 12 volt wire on the main harness. That explained why the unit was not gettng any power. The second problem as to why there were 12 volts at the pin switch and door lock actuators where an incorrect wire hooked upat the alarm. I hooked the relay up this way.

85 - Dome light supervison output

86 - + 12V

87 - +12V

87a - NC

30 - negative door trigger

This was wrong since I have a negative door trigger. The above connections works for positive door trigger.

I should have connected pin # 87 to ground. Once I corrected my mistakes,I was able to complete the door lock install. The morale of this story is to be careful. No excuses, but that was my first every alarm install and the alarm was used. I am moving on to my 91 max install. I will keep everyone informed about that install.
