wiring sub amp

I have a head unit that has front and rear preouts, but no subwoofer preouts. I wanted to hook up a sub amp. Can I use the rear preouts for the sub amp, while leaving the front and rear speakers connected to the speaker out wires from the head unit. Thanks for your help.

yes you can do that, but i reccomend you have a remote bass control  or you will have  no way of adjusting just the sub powereverything stolen :(

have you considered gettin an eq? nmost eq's will take one set of rca inputs and then will devide to one front set one rear set and a sub set, then you can adjust you bass that way2009 0-1000 Trunk WR 154.0DB 2009 1001+ Trunk WR

Thanks for the quick replies. Can I just use the front and rear speaker outs (both left and right for each) for the internals and in addition to that, use the rear preouts for the sub? Or would that draw too much power from the head unit? Would I be able to control the bass level from the amp, or do I need an additional remote bass control? If I decided to get the eq, to get a signal to my internal speakers, would I need to amp them?

He's probably better off buying an amp that has a remote level control that comes with the amp as well as an RCA pass through, this way he still has front and rear pre-outs. It is also one less piece of equipment to install, one less potential noise problem, less $ to spend..... but yes an EQ will also still work, as would an outboard crossover.Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

you dont need to buy an amp for your internals when useing the rca's on most radios, if you go with the eq use your rear out, to run to the eq, then run a sub out off that. later you will be set up for when your ready to run your internals off an amp2009 0-1000 Trunk WR 154.0DB 2009 1001+ Trunk WR

Thanks for all the help guys. I decided to buy a Bazooka powered tube. It was on sale at CircuitCity. Hopefully it does the job.

I took the tube back and got the Bazooka ELA500.1 amp to power my 2 Infinity subs. I should finish the install this weekend. Thanks for the assistance. I'll let you know how it comes out.
