have a 1991 z34 avital alarm and I am adding an avital q-start remote starter. Where can I find a tach wire that is live when the engine is running? I tried the white wire on the back on the actual tach but it is not powered when in remote start.   Any ideas?

The tach signal wire is either WHITE OR PURPLE / WHITE, which is located at the ignition module.

look for the FAT main wiring harness that runs on the right of the engine (when facing it from the front).  peel away the large split-loom and you'll find the PURPLE / white tach you need in there.
