I am installing an autostart in a 2002 Silverado 1500HD, and all the diagrams say to use the yellow wire at the ignition. I just want to make sure I have the right wire because it is a small wire and I would think the starter would be a heavy gauge wire.

Thats your start wire.... as long as your Yellow Pink Orange White wire are all comming off of the ignition, and your seeing them along the steering colum... thats your wire. Its very common (tho more often in dodges) for the start wire and the ignition wire/acc wire to be a light gauge (14gauge or so) because they are actully carrying no load, but powering up the ECM which switches the right relays and fires your vehicle up... wait till you do a dodge caravan where all you have is a start and ignition wire and the ECM takes care of the rest... freaked me out because it was light gauge crap and here i am tieing 10gauge wires into it... called tech support and found out that they were infact my wires... then did some digging and figured out why it was like that... neat setup

bla bla bla got sidetracked...

12V+: Red ~ Ignition switch harness... there are 2 red wires.. both 12V constant

START: Yellow ~ Ignition switch harness

IGN 1: Pink ~ Ignition switch harness

IGN 2: White ~ Ignition switch harness

ACC/HEAT: Orange ~ Ignition switch harness

Tach: PURPLE / White ~ Drivers side above the valve cover.. look for a plug

Positive door lock system ~ Relay box is buried under the dash mounted onto the firewall

The starter wire should be the same gauge as your white ignition 2 wire. Drop the underdash panel and the curved metal piece and you can grab pretty much everything you'd need for a basic install there at the bcm or the junction plug.

P Lights = Brown + @ the middle plug of the bcm

Factory Disarm = L. Green (-) @ the far right plug of the bcm

Locks = White & Blue (+) @ the far left plug of the bcm

The brake wire is white (+) in the left bottom pin of that junction box that most of the ignition wires go to.

The horn is black (-) in that same junction box.

Be sure to test all wires as there is usually multiple wires of the same color. Good luck,

Thanks for all the help. I just expected the Starter wire to be a heavy gauge and when I saw that it wasnt I wanted to be sure.

I have everything connected except the factory re-arm. I tapped into the tan wire at the BCM on the violet plug, but when I arm the system the interior lights stay on and the dash message center Security is lit and stays on.

Any answers?

See the answer I gave for the question (rearm wire for the chevy 2002 silverado) in this section of the forum. The yellow starter wire, pink and white ignition wire and the orange accessory wire can all be found in the black plug on the back of the driver's end dashboard fuse box.
