I need to install a DVD in a 99 Saab 9-5 and there are no aux inputs and the head unit is staying.  Are there quality differences between the various WIRED FM modulators?  The thought of using one of these really bothers me as I can't imagine the sound can be too good, but then again I've never heard one.  Also, do I need an antenna adapter?  Thanks.

The FM modulator is really not that bad.  The sound quality is not like having RCA's but unless you have a trained ear it won't really be a whole lot of difference.  Though you may lose a little volume but that's usually not a big deal.  I wouldn't use iRock because its a pain to figure out placement of the thing but any other FM mod should work fine.  And to answer your adapter question, yes you will need two of them if you do not use an iRock FM Mod.  You'll need one that goes from the plug that's in your radio to a universal male which plugs into the FM mod and then a female universal to a male Saab radio plug to go back into your saab radio.  Hope that helps.

Personally I do not like FM Modulators. They typically only have a frequency response of around 100Hz to 10 or 12kHz and can reduce radio reception. I prefer wireless fm transmitters, although many of them are also short on performance. SoundGate has a couple of FM transmitters with 20Hz to 15kHz response. I have one on my Sirius unit in my car and it is just about as good as a direct connect. I don't think it is on their website, but you can give them a call. Go to www.soundgate.com for the phone number
Best Regards,
Rich
