mobile video problem

I had an in-dash dvd player and seperate monitor installed by someone that had  no more experience than I did. Everything was working fine until I drove home for the holidays. After about 20 minutes of driving and watching my first dvd the screen on the monitor gradually fades out to a real light snowy color. I put everything on hold until I came to the first rest area. When I turned the car off the screen turns back to normal. Is this something maybe hooked wrong or has anyone even heard of this before? Any help would be appreciated.

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

I have a 95 pathfinder. The dvd player is soundstream and not sure what the monitor brand is. The power for dvd player is wired directly to the battery. The power for the monitor is wired from a small s-video( not sure) type cable, the cable from the monitor with two rca's and an adapter type plug for power. I have checked the power and ground for the dvd player and it is fine. The thing that seems to be a problem is the yellow rca, looks like it has been cut and spliced to make 2 female ends or vice versa to make a proper connection to the dvd player. Could this be a problem? Every time I unplug the monitor video rca the power goes off. I then plug back together and everything is fine for a few minutes then screen fades again. I would like to know if the dvd player is faulty or it is something in the cables.

Ok, I think the problem is the monitor. I checked the voltage going to the monitor, it got as high as 14.5 going down the highway. When I got home with engine still idling voltage dropped to below 14 but still a crappy picture, then turned vehicle off and when voltage dropped to around 13.5 picture came back in perfect. My question is--do I need some kind of voltage regulator? Thanks.

try to reground the monitors. What is happenig is that you monitors are using the videos round to run and after a while that is just not a good enough ground. Try this first then we will go from there

If the power on the monitor goes off when you unplug the yellow video RCA, the monitor may not be grounded. It may be pulling a ground through the shielding of the RCA. This is not good. Some screens go black when there is no video signal. Check to see if the monitor is stiil on even without any signal. Try putting a power line filter on the positive ignition lead to the monitor. If the problem is due to a voltage regulation problem, this may help regulate the voltage. sparky
