Has anyone added a sub amp to the factory system and if so how?

We do them all the time. Only complicating factory is if it has the DSP audio system (audio/dsp button on face of radio). Are you wanting to replace the factory amplifiers or just add subs or what?

First of all, let me mention that I work for SoundGate. The easiest way is to use a high quality line output converter on the sub output on the factory amp. You will need one that can handle the power output of the factory amp, and one that has good low end frequency response. The SoundGate LOC4 is great for this application. This unit will work for both the DSP and non DSP systems.

Rich

I'm going to unhook factory sub and install two 12's and an amp. Just wondering if I can use a line level adapter. If so need to know wire colors. Then possibly will replace speakers and factory amp. Need to evaluate sound after adding subs.

If you want to call me on Monday at 307-674-4707(ask for Rich) I can may be able help you out on wire colors. BMW stuff is kind of hard to get. If you disconnect the factory sub, you may have some problems with distortion (amp not seeing the load it is designed for). You can also come off of the inputs to the amp using the SoundGate LOCB (as long as it isn't the DSP system). The output from the factory system to the amp is a very low level differential signal and needs to be amplified so the signal is high enough for aftermarket amps.
Best Regards,
Rich
