Hi, newbe here, needing some help with the steering wheel remote hookup.  I've hooked up a pioneer DEH-P850MP headunit in my girlfriends 98 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and everything works except the remote control. The head unit had a blue wire w/ a white stripe on it that said "Remote", and I couldn't find a blue/white wire in the factory radio wiring. So I didn't connect it to anything. Is this the problem? How do I get the remote control to work? If it needs to be wired, please include details as to what wire it should be connected to.  Thanks in advance for any help provided!

If you're referring to her factory steering wheel controls, these will be lost unless you get a universal interface available at your local sound shop.  If I remember correctly, they run about $70.  I hear they're a pain to program- luckily I've never had to do this.

Not blue wire. Thanks

NOT FACTORY REMOTE, the remote, I am speaking of, came with the headunit. It attaches to the stearing wheel, and is wireless. It has its own battery.  Its just like a TV remote except for the car stereo.  You know, changes track # and volume.  Sorry I wasn't clear the first time.  I didn't think anything had to be wired to use the remote control, but wasn't sure.   That blue/white wire saying "remote" through me off.  Anyhow, the handheld remote control that came with the headunit doesn't work.  Any ideas as to what the problem is? Yes, battery is inserted correctly. Remote Control hookup to factory wiring - Last Post -- posted image.

I had one of these a few years back, and didn't like it very much.  Were you trying to use this in sunlight?  Mine never worked during the day unless I held my hand up to create a shadow over the face plate- kinda pointless.  Sometimes I'd push a button, and the whole thing would pop off, releasing itself from the band.  If you try the shadow thing and it doesn't work, try another battery.  If nothing still, take it back to the store (hopefully you purchased from a reputable seller).

Could also be that the postion of  the remote on the steering wheel does not permit it to have a clear "shot" of the radio.  They only work by line of site.  Does it work if you hold it and point it at the radio?  If so there's your problem.  I personally like the handheld ones so you can even control it in the back seat.

I haven't attached it to the steering wheel yet, because it doesn't work.  I've tried it close, far, sideways, backwards, upside down, on steering wheel, you name the position its been tried.  Actually the remote disconnects from the steering wheel adaptor so it can be used as a handheld.  I'm starting to think the remote itself or head unit sensor is broken.  Just my kind of luck!
