Speaker wont go off

Warning:  I am electronically challenged. 

 I installed a Jensen stereo and speakers in my 1968 Lincoln.  It seemed very straight forward, but has turned into a nightmare.  I connected the wires using a cigarette lighter “constant hot”, frame body for “ground” and the original radio wire for “ignition hot”.  I connected the speakers as advertised with all new wire, ie: violet to (+) and violet with black stripe to (-).

 The problem is that my right speaker is always on.  Does that make sense?  It always hisses and drained my battery.  When I put a battery charger on the car the hissing got louder.  When I turn the ignition on (with the stereo OFF) the noise gets even louder.  I can hear it when the car is running also.  If I disconnect the (+) or (-) speaker wire then the noise stops, but when I reconnect it the speaker jumps and pops then makes the noise.

 Turning on the stereo makes music and I think the noise goes away, but I can’t really tell for sure.
