1996 Ford Explorer, JVC CD player

I am attempting to install a JVC CD player into a 1996 Ford Explorer. I have connected the power okay and have the system up an running except for the speakers! I have consulted my Haynes manual and this forum but the colours given for the speaker wires do not correspond. The colours I have on the connector from the back of the existing radio are: Tan Blue Purple w/white Brown White w/red Green w/black Orange w/black Grey Blue w/red Yellow Blue w/black White w/orange Green Black Green w/red Purple I can't find any information on these wires. I have tried using a battery to "hear" which connect to which speaker but get no noise at all no matter what combination. Can anybody help?

Also, did you have an exsisting aftermarket stereo in the SUV? If so, you might have a different wiring harness. Take care, Eric

Unfortunately the stereo info does not help as the colours do not correspond with those on the exsiting radio/cassette player. What do you mean by existing aftermarket? The stereo that was in looks like the original unit that comes with the vehicle. Thanks for your help Brian

Did you use a wiring harness adapter to plug into your factory harness?  This is the preferred method, so you don't have to cut off the factory plug, and it's easy because the new harness is color coded to your aftermarket radio wires.  The reason the pop test isn't working is probably because you have a factory amplifier that needs a turn on signal.  This should be included in the wiring harness.

Are the harnesses in the vehicle two different colours or a common colour, do they look basically the same or is one a small rectangular box (with metal on it) and the other a long grey plastic molex with the power wiring in this plug?Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
