I have a 97' Honda Civic LX sedan and I was looking into installing some component speakers up front. I was wondering what everyone felt the best way to install the tweeters was.  You can use kick-panels, but they are sometimes expensive, or you can mount the tweeter somewhere on the dash or door panel.  I dont mind cutting into anything, but what do you guys think? The existing speaker openings are 6-1/2" on the door.

Yea, a 6.5" woofer fits nicely in the door opening, and you can hide your crossovers under the woofer inside the door.  I've mounted tweets in a Honda in both the A pillar and as surface mounts in the "wing" area of the door (inside where the rear-view attaches).  Putting them on the door gives better sound stage in most cases.  I've also put them on and in the dash, whihc can be a lot more work.  If your tweets are surface mount, try them on the door and see what you think.

Here's a trick you can try.  Mount your woofers and Xovers, and run the wire for the tweets out into the car with about 4 feet of slack.  Put some double-back tape on teh backs of the tweets and play with positioning by sticking them in all the likely mounting locations in your car.  When you find the sweet spot that sounds best to you, mount 'em and run the wire correctly.

Alright, that sounds like a great idea, I'll play with it a little bit and see which config. I like best.
