Can anyone tell me how to disarm or to stop the timer delay from arming the alarm everytime I get out of my 1997 Dodge Ram two doors pick-up?

Sometimes my remote control does not work  properly or has a low battery and I do not want the alarm to be armed automatically by the timer delay. So I get stuck with no posibility to start my own vehicle.

If I left the dome light on, the alarm doest not arm but consumes battery, I would like to know how to stop the delay timer from arming the alarm everytime I get out of my truck..

Best regards,

Mel Freire

is it a factory alarm, or are you talking about an installed alarm being in passive arming?  as in, you dont have to hit lock to arm it?  if thats what it is doing then you can change it in the programming menus.  then it will arm when you hit lock,  alarms dont draw a lot of power, they usually have a built in power save mode of some sort.

thank you for the response,

yes it is a factory alarm, I do not know the programming menus and i do not know how to imput the data to change it, if  I left the doors unlocked the alarm arms anyway due to the delay timer. the only way the alarm does not arm is when I left the dome light on on the switch.

I do not triger the remote control to lock, after I left the car in about 10 seconds it arms itself

I would appreciate very much if someone give me the tips to stop the alarm from arming automatically.

Mel,
I have never seen a Dodge Ram with a passive arming feature. It sounds more like the alarm is after market, as many do not have *passive* arming, and only rely on a immobilizer or similar key based device.
Could you please look at the remote key fob and see if there are markings on either on the front or the back.
Normally there will be a toggle switch for you to turn on-off the passive arming.
As the other member also stated, this can also be done via the programming feature guides.
Let us know . . .

Evil,

Thank you very much for your time and consideration to my problem,

the alarm is factory original, the key remote has the Chrysler star on it, there is no togle switch in it, Even if you do not have batteries, the alarm arms automatically when you close the door manually.

In a Chrysler dealer they told me the alarm works perfectly, but if  I do not want it they charge me 150 $ to disarm it.

If you know how to programming the alarm, i would appreciate this information.

does the car have a siren that 'chirps' when it is armed or disarmed or does it just honk the horn.

umm, if i could see the vehicle i would tell you where to just cut the door trigger wire and put a diode in series with it to the alarm system so it never sees the door close.  i think that would work  1997 Dodge Ram Alarm Disarm -- posted image.

I want to thanks everyone for your help

the alarm just honks the horn.

another thing, if I disconect the car's battery and I conect it back again, the alarm trigers.

the alarm is ok, but I want to be able to arm it when I want ,bypassing the timed relay it has.

It must be a way programing the alarm.

one friend told me that if you turn the ignition switch 5 times without starting the car, the alarm changes from honking the horn to blinking the head lights and that was correct, I want to know if there is a code to disarm the alarm.
