Hi all,

Did an alrm on this unit it went fine but the customer came back today and said that the battery was dead the next morning and the locks were unlocked after locking them the night before, any idea where to start troubleshooting in the morning.

If the battery went dead overnight then there should be a fairly high draw on the battery. Cut the alarm's main power lead. Install a digital VOM and test the systems current draw. Set your meter for amperage. Most alarms only draw less than 10 milli-amps even when armed. If your alarm draws more than 50 milli-amps, then you have a problem and need to check the wiring. See if any relays have been hooked up to battery and are alwayys on. Also check the vehicle's draw with the alarm completely diconnected. If you have used any interface modules they may be keeping the car's computers awake. The general acceptible limit to current draw on an entire car is no more than 50 milli-amps.

Hi Sparkie,

I see a problem no diode across the relay for the starter, could this be messing up the power locks.

how did u wire up your starter-kill relay? if your relay hooked up to constant power it can drain the batter in one day or less. make sure either pin 85 or 86 are hooked up to main ignition and not constant power

That is my next step to follow in the morning. Do you think that this has anything to do with the power locks been unlocked by themselves?.

the starter kill relay wont have anything to do with the power locks....but a dying battery can cause the alarm to pulse the locks.....see what happens and post back

How did you interface the door locks. Check for shorted wires. I agree with corraudio. the starter kill relay shouldn't have anything to do with the door locks, but it's always good to recheck all your wiring. With complicated installs that utilize relays and modules, you can sometimes create weird circuits unknowingly. Diodes may help block tray signals.
