ohms, trick amp to see different?

is it possible to trick an amp into thinking a sub is 2 ohms when its really 4 ohms?

Actually, the answer to the exact question "is it possible to trick an amp into thinking a sub is 2 ohms when its really 4 ohms" is YES. But it's not worth it because the desired result (an increase in output) will not be achieved at the sub.
To trick the amp you would wire a 4ohm resistor in parallel with the 4ohm sub (and I'm assuming that you're referring a SVC sub, not a DVC sub). The amp will see a 2ohm total load.
The reason this isn't done is because the resistor will absorb half the power output by the amp (just like a second sub would), and your primary sub would still only receive the power output equivilent at 4ohms (since most amps push out double the 4ohm output when running at 2ohms).
So, Yes you can trick the amp but it's pointless to try because your desired output result will not be achieved.
