I am getting ready to install a panasonic CY-VMD9000U and CA-TU7000U in a '99 vette w/ the bose system.  Will I be able to use the factory amp and speakers with an aftermarket headunit?  Also are the speakers 2 or 4 ohm?  I know some factory Bose speakers are 2 ohm, but I dont know about this car.  Any thing else I should know before starting?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,

the shop I used to work at did an install in a newer 'vette with Bose.  I didn't have a hand in it, but I think I remember they had to rip it all out.  An aftermarket deck would send too high voltage a signal to the factory amp(s).  And the speakers I believe were 1 or 2 ohm.  You may be able to cheat, and rig up some line out converters to step down the signal (just cut off the ends), but I'm not sure.  It turned out quite nice, though.  There was an Alpine screen molded into the dash, custom amp rack in the spare tire well, and two fiberglass enclosures for 8" drivers in the rear hatch just inside the tail lights.

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

I agree with the rip it all out statement. You have a nice start to a system, it would be a shame to see it all go downhill because of the junky bose garbage that is factory. Start it simple if dollars are tight, put one set of speakers in the front door. You will probably spend less doing this as compared to the labour to integrate the garbage into the Panasonic.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Peripheral Interface Electronics (PIE) builds a Bose interface adaptor that works very well in most applications. It is vehicle specific and will plug-n-play. Just using line level convertors will not send enough signal to the amps and you will run into heat issues. Interfacing with that Bose equipment is no problem, just find a shop that is worth their salt and they should be able to get you that part.
