Hi guys,

I'm new to this board but I've been installing emergency lights and sirens for a while. Today, I tried to replace my existing 6-tone siren from my prestige APS25 with a police siren w/ speaker, since I am a volunteer firefighter I thought it would be cool. Anyways this is what I did

I I took off the power and ground from the multi-tone siren that my alarm came with and added the power from the siren to it.

I thought once power is triggered it will activate the siren which is left on the ON position. Anyways it didnt work, when I tried re-attaching it to the existing alarm siren, it doesnt sound off.

The lights still flash but the engine cut-off in the hood and siren dont work. I checked all fuses and theyre good.I tried putting power direct to the alarm siren and it works, so I know I didnt blow the alarm siren.

Any Ideas what it could be.

If you need any help with installing emergency vehicle equipment I can help, but alarms are not my specialty

Hi Steven, it sounds like the police siren tried to pull more current from the alarm than the alarm could supply on that output and is most likely now in need of repair. You can try unplugging the alarm for a few minutes and plugging it back in, but my bet is the siren output is toast.

BTW, if you attempt to connect that police siren to an alarm in the future, use a relay.

Does that mean I need a new alarm board?

If you siren output is fried then you can get it fixed (I think) or would be better off just buying a new brain. But next time do what 12volt said and add a relay, a little more work but well worth it in the end.
