This is a post regarding an earlier post about the Eclipse 5303.  I currently have a Sony CDX-MP70 installed in my 1994 Ford Explorer.  During installation, the factory harness broke, and left me with 1 option:  Solder the factory wires directly onto the Sony Headunit Harness.  Will that harness work with the Eclipse 5303, or will i need to cut it out, and re-solder a new harness (are the harnesses included with aftermarket stereos generic, or does each manufacturer require a different harness?)  ?   I won't need speaker wires, since the 5303 is external amplifiers only....

Hi Wayland,

You didn't mention if you have premium sound or not.  I doubt the Sony harness will work for your Eclipse also.  Your best bet is to repair the factory harness.  I think it should be the http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=71-1770   This will allow you to put in the OEM radio, if you ever have to.

Now to install either radio, buy the 70-1770, http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=70-1770   This is color coded to match up w/ the aftermarket radio's harness.  Once you are done wiring, this will snap right into the 71-1770 you previously installed.  And whenever you need to change radios, remove the radio and 70-1770, cut the wires, and rewire to the new radio.

Good luck...stratusfear69

The harnesses are definitely different from manufacturer to manufacturer, in time this will probably change.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
