I am adding a sub amp and subs to my Harmon/Kardon system in a 00' Discovery. I have 2 questions. 1. If I add a LOC to the stock sub speaker wire and run from there to the amp with rca's, will the signal from the headunit still be adjusting the output signal up and down like it does with the stock subs. I believe the headunit attenuates the sound as to not distort when playing too loud. 2. I've only found one amp in the truck, which is under the drivers seat. I have found one "blue" wire which I'm hoping is the remote wire from the headunit. Most remote wires are blue, right? I'm guessing that it won't matter if I tap into it before or after the stock amp. Any Ideas? Thanks guys.

1. Yep, you have the right idea here.

2. I'm not sure about the wiring in your Diacovery since I've never torn into one, but in general blue or blue/white indicates remote wire. You should test it with a volt meter. Find the correct wire and yes you should be able to tap into it for remote turn on to your new amp.

So are you saying that the headunit won't be trying to cut the bass down as it would the stock sub? Or are you saying that it will work. My amp includes a remote gain control to turn the gain up. I will use that control the majority of the time.

I must not have understood what you were asking. Sorry about that. If you take a speaker-level signal off the factory subwoofer and convert that to a line-level signal and send that to an amp, the new amp will get the exact same signal as the sub is getting now. In most cases, that will be a crossed-over signal with only subwoofer frequencies and will be controlled by the head unit. If this is what you want (because you are adding a second sub) then that is the right way to go. If you are trying to get a full-range signal for a new mains amp, then no, take the signal off a set of the existing main speakers. No matter what you do, the signal strength will vary with the head unit volume, fader, etc. controls.

After reading the manual for the radio it tells me that really all it does is enhance the low end and high stuff as the car goes faster to make up for the increased road and wind noise. So I'm guessing that at most the headunit will put a little extra through the new sub amp when I get up to speed.
