Hey guys, I was looking in my crutchfield magazine today, and I saw a diagram for the head units. A few of the head units came with pre outs for front, rear and sub. My question is this: I have an old JVC head unit with just rear outputs on it, and the bass sounds great. Is there any difference between a rear and sub outputs? Or do they recieve the same signal, and its there for ease of setting up?

lots of times a dedictaed sub out will have some type of attentuation control ( x-over or level control ) thru the controls on the front of the unit, instead of just a fixed signal out like a regular rear pre-out.

It is there for ease of use and expansion of a stereo system. In most cases the signal is different between the front / rear and sub preouts due to the crossover in the cd player. It is a fairly basic crossover that is built in, the crossover in the amp is usually way better. With 3 outputs, 3 amplifiers can bee hooked up directly without need of some kind of processor to split the signal properly.

Sweet. So, therefore, i dont need to go upgrade my head unit? I was looking at one that had rear and sub outputs. If its not neccessary, i'll stick with what i've got. :)

No so fast young grasshopper, A variable sub level control is the best thing since touques and hockey were invented. The worst thing in the world that you can do with a cd player is play with the bass control, this will almost certainly send a clipped signal to your speakers and then we'll see posts from you about blown speakers. If your amp has a dedicated dash mountable sub level control, then you are good to go, if not read on.

This level control is a separate volume control strictly for the subs, it operates semi indipendent from the main volume control. If you have too much bass in the song you are listening to, by adjusting this level control, you can turn it down and only affect the subs. If you play with the bass control, it affects all speakers. Post up again if you need more info.

Hey rob... i'm posting again. :) I need more info. Actually, I have a Bass knob from my amp that I use to adjust my bass. I've been able to play my music full blast, with the bass full blast for hours, and nothings happened. besides me losing hearing for a while :)

Is this knob a bass boost or level control, bass boost is not the same and usually leads to smelly speaker. From your sig it looks like it is a punch bass control, this adds bass at a select frequency, it is not a sub level control and should not be used as such.

Yea, you are right. It is a bassboss punch knob. I am going to be upgrading my head unit in the near future soon. I cant seem to find prices on Eclipse head units anywhere. I think im gonna get one of them, or the Panasonic CQ-VAD9200U. i really like that one.

You must find an authorized dealer to find a price on an Eclipse head unit, our dealer agreements state that we cannot advertise on the net at all, thus even though I am an authorized dealer, I cannot list a price on it.

This is the perfect example of integrity, and professional conduct, which all dealers should adhear to.
Just my thoughts on that.
