Factory installed R/S

Not real sure who makes it but the way it's integrated into everything I can only assume GM or Delphi. I've seen the key fobs with the start button, but have yet to really mess around with one. Pretty cool system though! Mike

I always thought it was DEI. The antennas are close to the same and the remotes are somewhat similar in some cases. thats i beleive why DEI has the databus stuff for GM and even JEEP.

I would assume Delphi, since they make almost all of GMs BCMs, and the BCM on the new Malibu controls the starter and ignition functions.

dei makes there remote starts., aslo there transmitters for just those cars,. which is as you said a conjuction with delphi or acdelco. but who ever has done a remote start on a gm knows its cake. the units used are the new dei valet 561t programed to two pulses of the remote button... not the lock button. mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

what kind of range will the factory installed remote starts have? .... if dei has had anything to do with other factory units then the range would have to be better than that for me to want a factory installed piece

"what kind of range will the factory installed remote starts have?" The malibu advertises 200ft range..Not very good, but for most people 200ft is plenty to hit from the house. One cool thing about the factory remote start is that it monitors the outside air temperature and adjusts the inside temperature accordingly. I believe it does the defroster too. Meaning unlike our aftermarket equipment, the customer doesn't have to preset their controls. Also not sure why they changed the idea of the brake shutting down the remote start, in favor of the hazard switch. They also run off of a 10 minute run-time which isn't exactly ideal. I've heard you have to hit the lock button on the remote, and then hold the start button for 1.5 seconds to activate the remote start. It leaves a couple things to be desired but with the features and integration it is a cheap option from the factory that I don't think any aftermarket piece can compare with at this point. [Note: Remember I said I haven't gotten the chance to really mess around with these so everything I'm stating is what I've read or heard about the system. Can't guarantee any accuracy!] "I was supposed to install a remote start in a lexus LS300 about six months ago and the customer came back to let me know that lexus put one in so it wouldnt void his warranty. The activation input was the lock button three times. He could use his factory key fob or, (i discovered) you could use any of the lock switches at the door too. it was pretty cool just thought i would share." This is different from what we are talking about here. I can say almost 100% that the dealer didn't touch it. They most likely called a third party shop and had them come in and install an aftermarket system that works off of the factory keyless..We do these all the time..Technically the installer was lazy because your not supposed to be able to use the interior switches if they hook the unit up correctly. Should only work from the factory keyless.. Mike
